The first Bobbitt family in Alabama was John and Nancy (Huse) Bobbitt from Warren County North Carolina. The lived for a time in what was then Shelby County. Later this family moved to Tennessee and then to Indiana. The first Bobbitt of record born in Alabama was John H. Bobbitt who was born in 1817 in Shelby County, Alabama and died in Orange County, Indiana.
In the 1820's Bobbitt families from North Carolina settled in Jackson, Montgomery, and Fayette counties of Alabama. Bobbitt families from South Carolina migrated to Alabama and settled in Montgomery County.
From at least 1815 till the present day there have been Bobbitt families in Alabama. The ancestors of most of these families can be traced back to North Carolina in either Orange or Warren Counties

William Bobbet born between 1790-1800, living in Fayette County
Claiborn Bobit born between 1770-1780, living in Jackson County
Lemuel Bobbitt born between 1780-1790, living in Montgomery County
William J. Bobbitt born between 1800-1810, living in Montgomery County
Henry A. Bobbitt born between 1810-1820, living in Montgomery County.
Thomas Bobbitt son of William and Susannah Bobbitt left his parents in South Carolina and settled in Alabama. Thomas Bobbitt is believed to have been one of this three sons born between 1784 and 1794 and was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina. We believe Thomas was born in 1791. Barbour County is not far from Montgomery County where most of the migrating relatives of Thomas Bobbitt settled. The above record indicates that Thomas met his wife in Alabama since all of their children were born in Alabama.
