Family # 1074, counted October 1, 1850.
We believe that Sarah Clark was married previously to William C. Bobbitt who was killed in the gold regions of California in 1846 or 1847. William Columbus Bobbitt was a son of William James and Elizabeth Hale Bobbitt.
The younger son of William C. and Sarah Bobbitt, William C. Bobbitt Junior was listed with his son in Wayne County Illinois in the 1900 census.
William C. Bobbitt is believed to have been born in 1822 in Missouri. The date of his birth is not certain and his age does not seem right for the age of Sarah listed in the above census record.
There is an additional problem with this family of William C. Bobbitt. According to marriage records he married a Jane Graham on October 22, 1844. We think this was a second marriage and that her name was Sarah Jane Graham. The son John L. Bobbitt listed above was a son of William and Sarah Jane Bobbitt.
In Christian County Kentucky the records show that William James and Elizabeth (Haile) Bobbitt purchased land from the Clark family, a few months after their marriage. We are certain that the above Bobbitt males are descendants of Isham Bobbitt and most likely through William James Bobbitt and his son William C. Bobbitt.
We have considered the possibility that George Clark was married to a sister of William C. Bobbitt before his marriage to the Sarah Clark in the above census. We were unable to find a recorded marriage for George Clark to a Bobbitt female.
