1850 CENSUS OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI

Bobbitt Family records

The first Bobbitt family to be recorded in Mississippi was Uriah Roderick Bobbitt. Records show that he lived in Leake County in 1832. Uriah was born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, lived for a time in Tipton County, Tennessee and then moved to Leake County where he died in 1850. Uriah was born in 1781 and died in Jackson Mississippi on August 27, 1850.

Only two families were listed in the 1840 census records of Mississippi. Uriah R. Bobbitt in Leake County, and Major William Bobbitt in Yalobusha County.

Following is the listing of all Bobbitt family members in the 1850 census of Mississippi.

ADAMS COUNTY

Family # 118

John S. Mosby (Teacher)           48 1802 Virginia
Frances B. (Bobbitt) Mosby       42 1808 Mississippi
Several students listed
Mary* B. Babbitt                       18 1832 Mississippi
Adam Babbitt                            16 1834 Mississippi
Charles Babbitt                          14 1836 Mississippi

Frances Bobbitt must be a widow of a Bobbitt and some think that she was the third wife of Uriah R. Bobbitt, which I doubt since she would have had to married John Mosby after August 27, 1850. The children may be the children of Uriah but I have not been able to identify them. The Mosby family moved later to Memphis Tennessee where the family claims to be Bobbitt relatives.

DeSOTO COUNTY

Family # 76

A. M. Sea                                            42 1808 North Carolina
James E. Sea                                       10 1840 Mississippi
John Sea                                               8 1842 Mississippi
Sarah F. Sea                                         6 1844 Mississippi
Adelia C. Sea                                        5 1845 Mississippi
Mary A. E. Sea                                     3 1847 Mississippi
George T. Bobbett (carpenter) 27 1823 North Carolina
John M. Walker (farmer)       26 1824 Tennessee
Lewis V. Sea                  27 1823 Tennessee

George T. Bobbett cannot be identified, I do not believe that he was related to the Sea family. He simply worked for the family as did the other non family members.
