Texas was made a State in 1845. The first Bobbitt to be born in Texas, according to all records, was Amanda Bobbitt daughter of Roderick R. Bobbitt. Amanda was born in 1842 just a few years before Texas was made a State.
By 1880 Bobbitt families were recorded in numerous counties of Texas. The counties were Houston, Gonzales, San Augustine, Dallas, Van Zandt, Denton, Grayson, Rusk, Goliad, Henerson, Ellis, Montgomery, Cherokee, Wise, McLewan, and probably many others that we have not found in our research.
By 1900 Texas had more Bobbitt families than any other state except North Carolina.
Lewis Bobbitt was listed in the 1840 census of Union County, Arkansas in the 1840 census.
Lewis Bobbett
1 male under 5 (1835-1840) 1 female 20 - 30 (1810-1820)
1 male 30 - 40 (1800-1810)
We know little about Lewis Bobbett. We think that he was a son of Solomon and Honour (Wiggins) Bobbitt of Franklin County, North Carolina. The two census records above would indicate that Lewis had two wives. The first wife apparently died between 1842 and 1847. Lewis could not have been in Texas very long since his last child was born in Arkansas in 1848. Later there were numerous Bobbitt families in Cherokee County, Texas but none were related to this Lewis Bobbett family.
