Greenbrier County was formed in 1777 from Montgomery County. The first Bobbitt family to live in Greenbrier County moved there from Monroe County in 1842. This county is now in West Virginia.

John Bobbitt was born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. He married Permelia Hill in Amherst County. This family moved to Monroe County in 1827 and was the first Bobbitt family in the county. William Bobbitt listed with this family was a grandson of John and Permelia. William was a son of Tilman Bobbitt. The family moved to Greenbrier County in 1838.

Both of the above families were descendants of John and Permelia Bobbitt. Tilman and Oregon Bobbitt were brothers and sons of John Bobbitt. Jane Hill was a first cousin of Tilman Bobbitt and Lucy Ann Hill was a first cousin once removed from Oregon Bobbitt. Tilman Bobbitt left Greenbrier County in 1865 and eventually settled in North Platte. Nebraska. Oregon Bobbitt lived and died in Greenbrier County.
