James Bobbitt left a will which was written in April 1837 and probated on March 10, 1849 in Carroll County Virginia. (Carroll County was formed from Grayson County in 1849).

The will does not mention a previous marriage or any children that could have been born to any wife other than Rosanna Bobbitt. The will is interesting and strange without knowledge of the family history. It is recorded in Book #1, page 184.

I James Bobbitt do hereby make my last will and testament.

First: I give to my wife Rosannah Bobbitt, one horse, for her to take her choice, two cows, her choice, also one bed and furniture. She is to have possession of the house and kitchen, and all furniture, during her widowhood or natural life, at her decease, all of the property, I give to my two sons, WILLIAM BOBBITT AND LACY BOBBITT.

Secondly: I give to my two sons, William and Lacy, the tract of land I now live on, with the tract of land adjoining on the north, known as the Garner place, adjoining Thomas Jennings .... Also all other property not disposed of... My two sons above named are to provide for my wife Rosannah Bobbitt.

Thirdly: I give to my son Lacy Bobbitt the tract of land Joining on the south, known as William Bobbitt Senior's old place, with a survey joining, made by Bobbitt and Bucks.

Fourthly: I give to my son JOHN BOBBITT, five dollars.

Fifthly: I give to my daughter ANN MOORE, fifteen dollars.

Sixthly: I give to my daughter ACENAH WHEELER, fifteen dollars.

Seventhly:  I give to my daughter JANE MOORE, five dollars.

Eightly: I give to my daughter BETSEY WILLIAMS, five dollars.

Ninethly: I give to my daughter CELISTA GOAD, five dollars.

The above legacees to be paid by my two sons, William Bobbitt and Lacy Bobbitt.
