The census records state an interesting account of this family. In the 1800 census of Warren County, North Carolina the family is listed as:

Lewis Bobbitt:

2 males under 10 (1790-1800)                2 females under 10 (1790-1800)

1 male 10 - 16* (1784-1790)                  1 female 10 - 16 (1784-1790)

1 male 16 - 26 (1774-1784)                    1 female 45 & over ( -1755)

*This is John Bobbitt born in 1789. The two males under 10 are Miles born in 1792 and Lewis born in 1794, and Lewis who was born in 1782 is wandering the trails at the age of 18.

In the 1810 census of Warren County, just eight years before Lewis Bobbitt died the family is listed as:

Lewis Bobbitt:

1 male 10 - 16 (1784-1800)                         1 female 10 - 16 (1794-1800)

1 male 26 - 45 (1765-1784)*               2 females 16 - 26 (1784-1794)*

*This is James Bobbitt and his wife Mary Gunn who were married in Warren County in 1809 and are living with his parents, Lewis and Mary Bobbitt. The male 10 - 16 is Miles Bobbitt born in 1792. Lewis and John are away from home. The fact that John is away from this record at this time, fits in perfectly with the fact that his first two children were born in Tennessee in 1809 and 1810.

Lewis Bobbitt died in 1818 and the 1820 census lists only Miles Bobbitt and his family, but note the records, in 1820 in Rutherford County Tennessee.
